Today's indie feautred artist hails from Portland, Oregon, US. The Decemberist have been qualified by Steven Colbert as "hyper-literate prog rock." This recognition responds to the fact that little events in history, that require much investigation to shed a light upon and that are often overlooked are the main inspiration of their storytelling lyrics. Most of the recognition is taken by singer/songwritter Colin Meloy.
The name of the band was chosen in reference to the Russian Decembrist Revolt (Explaining their use of the National Anthem of the Soviet Union as an introduction at many concerts) and to the atmosphere associated with the month of December, of which I´m not that sure of. What remains true however is their use of insturments such as the upright bass, accordion and Wulritzer and Hammond organs that add to the diverse atmosphere of the ample range of musical styles they aproach. From pirate like ballads to pop like sing-a-long songs the music from The Decemberists reaches our modern rock ears, with no introspective lyrics that describe a mood or situation, this guys develop an idea and put you in context so you can take sides and have an informed opinion about it.
The song I want to feature, has no relation to any event in history whatsoever...hmm that I know of, yet I could be wrong. The interesting thing about it however is the way that storytelling flows and creates a musical atmosphere that transports you to the belly of a whale, far away in the oceans of some other crazy mildly livable planet, or not. The song is 8:47 minutes long and as far as I know, has no official video, but Team Strike Force, Creative World Pictures and Vegetable Road have managed to capture in video their tremendous interpretation of the story line described by the song's lyrics. By the way, that was a great job you guys!!!!!

Apenas pa dejar la timidez con el ingles. Good choice on this one, I like the lyrics. Next time you should write on Modest Mouse. And on friday maybe pick out something from Bob Dylan. Or Make a "literature sunday" (songs with lyrics worth reading without music)", or a "guest saturday" with a review from somebody else. (jaja, esa mierda de los dias es muy candela stereo, pero pega...) Fonseca? mmm, I suppose living outside makes you wanna listen to any crap that comes out of it. Oiga, very nice that you waste your time on this. Suerte
Thank you for the comment, en lo de candela stereo tiene razon es bastante comico and about the other things I plan on turning WTFF into Friendly Friday for friends to colaborate, as soon as someone shows interest (I'll add you if you want). Yeah Modest Mouse is a band I already plan on reviewing, their new CD (We were dead before.....blablabla)rocks so be sure to come back. Fonseca es chevre... talvez tenga razon en lo que dice de vivir afuera, pero no le quita lo bien producido.
Rock hard!
