Ok so here we go!!!
MM

In this edition of MM I would like to feature a metal band which resides in Israel. The name is Orphaned Land, very proper I believe. Anyways what caught my attention from this band was the excellent blend of oriental instruments, traditional Yemenite chants, oriental Jewish piyyut and Arab melodies with the elements that conform a proper metal band, meaning harsh voice, crushing guitars, thundering bass lines, skull crushing drumming and blablablahhhh (: and let´s not forget the passages form the holy books courtesy of Kobi Farhi (Singer). Yes what they do is aproach the always difficult religious matters. They, promote the fact that people with different religions can co-exist in peace, more exactly Jews and Muslims. This in my opinion is a bold move hailing form israeli locals in these times of conflict with the palestinians.
Enough introduction let's cut to the chase. In their latest CD titled Mabool (Hebrew for deluge or flood) the story of the seventh son of God (notice how without noticing I capitalized the word... oh well whichever is your God I guess he/she/it deserves a little respect) is told. The lyrics read:
The seventh had seven descendants
The seventh was then divided into three
They were given their first symbols
They bore faces of animals
A Snake, an Eagle & the Lion
The divided seventh son of the seventh son (reminds oneself of Iron Maiden's CD, Seventh son of a seventh son, released the 11th Apr 1988) and their symbols that are mentioned later within the song entitled Birth of the Three (The Unification) represent one monoteistic religion. They try to warn humanity of the deluge to come as punishment for their sins. So finally the song I recomend Halo Dies(The Wrath of God) has not as much middle eastern feel to it as most of the other songs in the CD do but it is, as I see it, one of the most important passages in the story line and where a great deal of musicmanship is shown by the band.
You can find the lyrics here... trust me you'll need'em, sometimes it's to fast.
Also they will be releasing their next CD with Century Media if I'm not mistaken, having as a producer the well known Steven Wilson... don't know him? Don't worry I will feature him pretty soon. Looking forward to ORWarriOR (New CD's name comming out mid 08).
