This is an article I wrote a while ago. I thought I'd post it to see some reactions, although it is rather outdated. I realize this has nothing to do with music, and yet I could make it do so. Check out some links at the end of this article. They represent two of the countries of which I speak about. Colombia & Turkey.
Two Conflicts, One mastermind.
Colombian armed forces inteligence service uncovered the location of Raul Reyes, second on command and spokesman for the Farc guerilla, recently labeled as a 'terrorist' organization by the UN committee. The fact that they had pin-pointed him 2km beyond the frontier line that divides Colombia from Ecuador, didn't stop the colombian armed forces on their heavy attack to Reyes's Ecuador based camp which resulted on his death. Fearing body exchange, a popular practice among the colombian guerila to cover their break downs, the colombian armed forces transported his body and belongings; among with a computer containing information that links and incriminates the Venezuelan and Equatorian government with the guerila's enterprises. The evidence documents large amounts of money recieved by the Farc from venezuelan president Chavez and communications between Quito and Reyes, exposing the fact that Equatorian government was willingly offering to provide refuge and transport for the spokesman. As a consecuence, and even after colombian president Alvaro Uribe offered his appologies and provided evidence to support his acts, the equatorian and venezuelan presidents resolved to brake diplomatic relations with Colombia and left no choice but to close the Colombian embassies. The case has been taken to the American States Organization, the UN and now the International Penal Court. Venezuelan armed forces are moved to the western part of the country and equatorian armed forces are moved towards the northern territories in anticipation of a possible armed conflict.
Meanwhile another conflict is taking place in the frontier of Turkey and Iraq. The PPK (Kurdish Workers Party) have stagged hit-and-run attacks based in northern iraqui territories (ZAP) with Iraq's government knowledge. All of this takes place during the time that armenians pass a petition to label as a genocide the conflict they had against the Turkish and also during the times that the situation in the middle east showed it's brightest side for the american interests. An armed incurssion or invasion of iraqui territories pursuing PPK members led to a snowy, eight day operation over the rugged territories of Zap, where 'terrorist' attacks against Turkish people where masterminded. The Turkish armed forces where withdrew on Feb 29, possibly responding to pressures from the US, to which Buyukanit answered: "Speculation that Turkey got out because the United States said go out is not true, If they can prove it, I will take off this uniform."
Colombia and Turkey, long time American friends because of strategic locations and economical importance, share most of the political views regarding international affairs and have an unwritten code of loyalty and a history of mutual help and cultural exchange towards the United States of America. In both conflicts the USA have tried not to get involved, have suggested to manage diplomacy before recurring to the last resort and have been powerfull alies by providing intelligence and information when acquired. Nevertheless there have been some pressures from the US for Turkey not to invade iraqui territories in pursuit of the PPK guerilas and I think preassures on the colombian government shall rise; all of this in accordance to their constant commitment to tip the situations in their favor. Now that is diplomacy...The art of conducting international relations by negotiating, alliances, treaties etc., especially dexterity in securing advantage for one's nation.
So here it goes.
